heritage mystery black bean
story: a mystery climbing bean, characterised by thin green pods with a purple stripe running down them. first donated at a seed swap and grown in the queen’s wood cafe community garden, these did really well in 2020, and were grown next to sweetcorn and squash as part of a three sisters planting technique.
when to sow: plant out pot-raised beans in late may and early june or sow directly from mid-may until july.
requirements: well draining soil, can be grown in pots.
harvesting: in the summer. pods are around 10-15cm long when ready to eat.
please remember, we will only send out three packs of seed to first-season growers. if you order more than this, you are likely to receive just three packs to begin with. this is to ensure we get plenty of data in return, and to keep our stocks sustainable for years to come.
