Cichorium intybus

story: this variety of chicory has serrated green leaves with red-pink stems. ssn manager sonia finds it a bit too bitter for her tastes as the plant matures, but the younger leaves are beautiful and delicious in a summer mixed salad. these seeds were originally grown out from franchi organic seeds.

when to sow: start indoors or direct sow in spring. grows throughout summer and autumn until first frost.

requirements: moist, nutrient-rich soil.

harvesting: cut of leaf stems as needed. cicoria can be harvested when young, for small tender leaves, or later for a larger cooking green.

please remember, we will only send out three packs of seed to first-season growers. if you order more than this, you are likely to receive just three packs to begin with. this is to ensure we get plenty of data in return, and to keep our stocks sustainable for years to come.
