Cucumber Kheera

Cucumis sativus

story: the heirloom kheera cucumber seeds come from the Heritage Seed Library. Originating from Bangladesh, this mid-sized cucumber has a triangular cross-section when cut and beautiful yellow/orange skin. Like other cucumber varieties, this would do best in a greenhouse or conservatory. 

sow: indoors in April. 

requirements: full sun, moist soil. 

harvesting: for eating: pick fruits when young, firm and green/yellow - not when brown and cracked. For seed harvesting: pick when they grow squat and stout rather than conventionally long and thin. Leave the fruit on the plant for as long as possible and be sure to let them fully ripen to yellow or brown with cracked skin.
